Golden retrievers are originated from the Scotland. They were initially found in the Highlands in Scotland, and they were very helpful in retrieving birds. It is said that they were used in the circuses, and later Marjoribanks purchased a group of them and started to breed the Golden retrievers. During the 19th century, they use this sporting dog for hunting.

Golden retrievers are the good eaters of the dry foods. Based on the activities carried on by them, they eat more or less food. 2-3 three cups of high quality dry food is enough for them. Golden retrievers always prefer to hang outside, and when they are supposed to stay inside, they lack the energy. So, it is better to take them outside and exercise them for 20-30 minutes a day. It keeps them in good vibe at all times. They tend to carry things in their mouth right from the initial days. So, use those days and train them to accept the commands for catching the balls and giving back to you. This will make them more playful in nature.

Generally, Golden retrievers maintain their healthy state. But it is much important to look after them as they are prone to certain illness. Most of the Golden breeds suffer from hip dysplasia. They don’t show up the signs in the early stages. So, take your Golden retriever to the vet at least twice a year.

- Hip Dysplasia: A malformation of the hip sockets, which can lead to pain and arthritis
- Elbow Dysplasia: A painful malformation of the dog’s elbows on the front legs
- Osteochondrosis (OCD): An inflammatory condition in which diseased cartilage separates from the adjoining bone
- Various types of cancer: The most common cancers in golden retrievers include hemangiosarcoma and lymphoma.
Coat Color And Grooming:
As the name suggests Golden retrievers comes in the shades of gold ranging from dark to light. They have a dense outer coat followed by thick undercoats. The Golden retrievers mostly shed during spring and fall. Take them to the bath once in a month and brush them at least two to three days a week.
Size and Weight:
Generally, the male Golden retrievers are 23-24 inches tall and 65-75 pounds in weight and the females range from 21.5-22.5 inches in height and 55-65 pounds in weight. The Golden retrievers reach their full height by the age of one and two by weight.
